What is the product manual for Isothiazolinones

  • CAS No.: 26172-55-4, 2682-20-4
  • Relative Molecular Mass: 115.16

Performance and Application

Isothiazolinones are primarily composed of 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (CMI) and 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one (MI). They function by breaking the protein bonds of bacteria and algae, rapidly and irreversibly inhibiting their growth, leading to the death of microbial cells. Due to this, isothiazolinones have a strong inhibitory and bactericidal effect on common bacteria, fungi, and algae. They are characterized by high biocidal efficiency, good degradability, no residue, safe operation, good compatibility, strong stability, and low cost of use. Additionally, they are miscible with chlorine and most anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants. At high doses, isothiazolinones have a significant effect on the stripping of biological slime.

Note: The factory can produce products of different concentrations according to customer requirements, such as 2%, 6%, 8%, etc.

Usage Method

  • As a sludge stripping agent, the dosage concentration is 150-300mg/l.
  • As a biocide, it is dosed once every 3-7 days, with a dosage of 80~100mg/L.
  • It can be used simultaneously with oxidizing biocides such as chlorine and is not suitable for cooling water systems containing sulfides.
  • The combined use with quaternary ammonium salts is more effective.
  • When used as an industrial biocide and anti-mold agent, the general concentration is 0.05-0.4%.

Packaging and Storage

  • Packaged in plastic barrels, each barrel is 25kg or determined according to customer requirements.
  • It should be stored indoors in a cool place, and the storage period is ten months.

Safety Protection

  • It is corrosive to the skin and can cause skin burns and allergic dermatitis.
  • Strictly avoid contact with skin and eyes.
  • Protective glasses and rubber gloves and other labor protection supplies should be worn during operation.
  • If contact with skin occurs, immediately remove contaminated clothing, rinse the affected area with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, apply urea acetate ointment or burn ointment, and seek medical attention immediately.
